Striving to support the communities it serves
Two of Arriva’s core values are “Doing the right thing”, and “Thinking Beyond”, and it certainly lives up to both of those when implementing this solution for providing potentially crucial criminal evidence from its multitude of passenger services to relevant third-party agencies.
Arriva is a leading multinational public transport company headquartered in Sunderland, England. It operates bus, coach, train, tram, and waterbus services in 14 countries across Europe, delivering over 2 billion passenger journeys annually.
With many thousands of crimes being captured on CCTV on its passenger services every year, there is a constant stream of requests for sharing this potential evidence with relevant law enforcement agencies. The full end-to-end process for requesting, acquiring, redacting, securing, transporting, and sharing, what might ultimately be crucial criminal evidence, involved many manual steps and the copying of data onto physical media such as DVDs, for high-risk, expensive and time-delaying courier delivery. Given the risks involved in this process, Arriva were looking to build a full end-to-end CCTV handling solution which could use a remote service to log an incident, automatically request footage for download to secure servers and, most importantly, enable it to be shared in a timely way with critical third-parties such as solicitors, the relevant Police authorities or the Crown Prosecution Service. A challenge indeed.
