Cloud and digital transformation specialist Synergi is celebrating the end of a successful outcome for the first placement on its graduate academy, as graduate Tom Mussell takes up a role as junior consultant.
Tom’s own celebrations have received another boost with a relocation back to his home city of Liverpool, thanks to Synergi’s flexible working policy, which will see him helping to design, build and support cloud solutions for a range of Synergi’s North West clients.
Based in Gateshead, Synergi delivers digital transformation and cloud security services that give businesses access to anywhere, anytime systems and data, without the need for heavy capital investment.
After leaving Northumbria University with a 1st Class Honours in Information Technology Management for Business, Tom has since spent 12 months on deployment in Synergi’s support, development and consultancy teams, gaining a ground-level understanding of the business.
“Although I will not be physically based in the North East, I will be making regular visits and using all the latest collaborative working technology that we implement for others, to make sure it’s business as usual for our customers and partners,” said Tom.
“Ending my one-year placement on a high note with a promotion to consultant level, and being able to combine it with relocating back home is a double bonus.”
Synergi’s graduate academy was the brainchild of Jacob Foy, Solution Architect and Graduate Scheme Manager, and one of the company’s original employees. Designed to tap into the talent graduating from the region’s universities, it attracted 500 applicants in its first year alone, and provides on the job training and support to young people looking for a career in the cloud services sector. The 12-month programme involves a rotation schedule to give graduates a hands-on flavour of each department, and its role in the business.
Managing director Peter Joynson explains: “We actively encourage the entrepreneurial spirit in our team, and when Jacob came to us with a proposal to create a graduate academy with a clear development path, plus the commercial benefits it would bring, we immediately saw the potential for a very successful scheme.
“Investing in staff training and development helps us continue to lead the way in our sector. Jacob worked hard to develop a framework that helps graduates build on their university experience, translate it into real-world working in a professional environment, and learn the new and specialised skills on which our business depends. It allows us to train people to our own exacting standards, and brings fresh thinking into the business.
